Easier
Rudd Pond – 13 miles up, 13 miles back.
Get on the train after getting your gear and take it up to Wassaic. From there, ride 10 miles on the Harlem Valley Rail Trail to Millerton, where you can stop and eat or buy supplies for your campout. Then it’s 3 miles on road to Rudd Pond State Park, where you can camp, swim, take out a rowboat and hike.

Intermediate
Copake Falls – 25 miles up, 25 miles back. Can be done over 2 or 3 days.
Get on the train after getting your gear and take it up to Wassaic. From there, ride 25 miles on the Harlem Valley Rail Trail to Copake Falls where you will find a State Park with camping, swimming, hiking and a waterfall.
The campground is next to a restaurant and a deli. So you don’t have to cook anything over a campfire, unless you want to.

Advanced
Farmington Canal Heritage Trail – 116 miles. Can be done over 2 days with camping halfway.
Take Amtrak to Massachusetts and then ride south on the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail. You can camp approximately halfway. The ride will end at Union Station in downtown New Haven where there is Metro-North train service back to Grand Central every half hour.

Eastern Long Island (South Fork, Hamptons, Montauk) – 120+ miles
Can be done over 2 or 3 days with primitive camping. This is an advanced itinerary that only cyclists with prior bikepacking experience should attempt. The distances are vast as you bike through beautiful wide open spaces. Use Long Island Railroad to get to and from the ride.

Everything you need
Gotham Bicycle Tours has rental bicycles that are perfect for overnight bikepacking adventures. All bikes are accessorized for overnight bike tours, with racks to hold your bags. If you don’t have bags, you can rent panniers that work with the bike. See our bike rental page for full details.
In addition we also rent tents, sleeping bags and sleeping pads.

Convenient pick-up and return get you out of the city fast
Our Woodlawn Heights location at the edge of the city is very close to the Woodlawn Metro-North Railroad station. You can get off the train, get set up, and back on the next train, heading straight to your bikepacking adventure. (For the return, we can usually board your train and take back the equipment and bikes while the train is moving. You don’t even have to get off! It’s like magic! Maximum convenience!)
We will give you instructions and GPS for where to ride once you get off the train.
